The making of our Christmas creative
Each year we say to ourselves that we must sort our Christmas creative earlier. To be fair to us we came up with the idea in November, so an improvement! We wanted to keep this ‘homely’ thus the gingerbread biscuits. A Gingerbread House seemed ambitious so we opted for the alphabet cutters instead. This all seems straightforward, however, these things never are!
The dough was made and rolled out to a uniform thickness and the letters for MERRY CHRISTMAS were cut out x 2 (in case one worked better than the other). After baking and cooling they were then individually photographed using natural daylight from above using a Canon DSLR camera and tripod.
After this 1st stage, each of the letters was then individually photographed but this time with the addition of icing sugar sifted over them. The decorations were photographed separately as well as these were to be added in post-production. To give it the final Christmas feel we felt Holly and berries were required and again these were photographed separately.
Post Production
This ended up being the time-consuming aspect. Adobe After Effects was used to build out the graphic. Each of the letters had to be cleaned up and a drop shadow was added to each of the gingerbread letters to enable the biscuit to stand well against the white marble background. Once each of the letters was ready we could begin to add movement. Jumbling them up created a bit of fun.
We then repeated this for the biscuits with the sifted icing sugar ie. the drop shadow. Each of the decorations was added individually. Royalty Free Christmas music was overlaid to complete the creative together with our branding.
