It always feels we’ve left it too late but this year we took advantage of a snow day. Too easy to use snow. After digging the equipment out from where our studio is based, we decided to set up a studio space at home where it was ever so slightly warmer and had specific things to hand.
We pre-ordered a range of vases, you’d be amazed how getting the right vase size and shape is key. Our initial thoughts were that the first delivery of vases was too small and we ended up taking a delivery from Germany which was a metre high, in fact, we never used it as it was too large and so back in the prop box!
Fortunately, we were able to recycle the red baubles we used in a previous video The Little Christmas Tree a few years back. Carbonated water was essential to this production, about 16 litres were acquired yet only 4 litres were used in total.
We used overhead LED lighting and created a booth to eliminate another light. This is where clothes pegs come in handy as we’d forgotten the clamps!
We filled the small vase with the red baubles and then slowly filled it with carbonated water to prevent the baubles from jumping out. The top of the vase still needed to be closed off to avoid this happening and so we placed a couple of saucers on top.
Once we were happy with the set-up and the vase glass was smear-free, cameras started rolling in slomo. Some of the CO2 bubbles attached themselves to the baubles to create a visual style together with the effervescent festive bubbles or Alka Seltzer effect!
Editing took place using Adobe Premier Pro and added text using motion graphics.
