The Brief
To create a video to be shown in Further Education Colleges and environments. To develop a supplied script a storyboard about how to identify the potential signs of addiction and substance abuse and how with the help of Hospitality Action problems maybe addressed. The video needed to be engaging, relatable and relevant in order to carry viewers to the end of the video.
The Project
The filming relied upon the Hospitality Industry to volunteer a range of employees and locations including restaurants, chefs, hotels, hoteliers and Hospitality Industry employees. They were all amazing. There were challenges with the project which was due to the sensitive nature and the filming that was required in public areas. A special mention to the team at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge who were very accommodating to our filming needs.
The film was narrated by chef Phil Howard who has been very open about his own addiction to crack cocaine. The film also features an interview with Tom Kerridge who recently revealed his difficult relationship with alcohol. Both chefs are extremely candid and direct in sharing their stories which we hope will resonate with the audience.
The Outcome
While the brief was to create a film which appealed directly to students Hospitality Action wanted something that could also work equally well in the workplace and the film doubles up as a resource to help team leaders working in the industry to broach a delicate subject with their team.
The film has been widely shared in both workplaces and colleges across the UK. Thanks to the support of PACE it has also been widely incorporated into e-learning platforms and has quickly become a key resource for tutors preparing their students for the workplace.
